USCIS Reports 11,000 Applied for DACA Renewals Since Court Ruling

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) reported that an estimated 11,000 Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals (DACA) beneficiaries renewed their DACA status after U.S. Federal District Judge William Alsup ruled in favor of DACA renewals last January 10, 2018. An additional 22,000 DACA beneficiaries’ renewal applications are pending before the USCIS. DACA is an Obama-era program that allows almost 700,000 young undocumented immigrants who were brought into the U.S. as children to temporarily live and work in the U.S. and be protected from deportation while finding means to obtain legal status. The Trump Administration abruptly terminated the DACA program last year and has since been a major legal issue in U.S. federal court and Congress.
