USCIS Rejects 4,000 “Late” DACA Renewals Already in Its Mailbox on Deadline Date

Plaintiffs filed a lawsuit against the Trump Administration in the Eastern District of New York alleging that at least 74 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program renewal applications from  New York City and Chicago and many more from other areas were rejected by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for being “late” despite submitting within the deadline of October 5, 2017. The plaintiffs allege that the USCIS marked their applications “received” on October 6, 2017 despite having received their applications on or before October 5, 2017. Moreover, a New York Times article reported last week that a mysterious mail slowdown in effect delayed the DACA recipients renewal applications.
