The Trump Administration has removed protection for Haitians under Temporary Protected Status (TPS). In effect, 59,000 Haitians previously covered by TPS have six months to leave the U.S. This deadline gives the affected Haitians until July 22, 2019 to leave the country. TPS endows protection to nationals of certain countries undergoing or recovering from man-made or environmental disasters.
It can be remembered that Haiti has been struck by an earthquake killing 316,000 in 2010, a cholera epidemic, and a hurricane wreaking havoc on the country in 2016. It was in 2010 that Haiti was put by the U.S. under the TPS.
