Thousands of Demonstrators Troop to Senate to Push for Clean DACA Act, Some Lawmakers Arrested

Hundreds of thousands of supporters of more than 700,000 young recipients of the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program launched a protest rally in Washington D.C. to demand the U.S. Congress to pass a legislation enabling the DACA recipients to continue living and working in the U.S. The protest is in light of the Trump Administration’s move that ended DACA program in September 2017 and, at the same time, tasking Congress to pass a concrete DACA law that will address the contentious issue of immigration that is supported by Democrats and by some Republicans.
In the same event, a total of 182 arrests were made during the protests, including Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA) and Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill), on charges of crowding, obstructing, or incommoding. They were released shortly and required to pay fines.
