Motel 6 Sued for Releasing Guest Lists to ICE Agents

Washington State Attorney General (AG) Bob Ferguson has filed an $18 million lawsuit against Motel 6, a chain motel, for assisting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in trying to locate undocumented immigrants by providing their guest lists without duly issued warrants. AG Ferguson has said that more than 9,150 guests of Motel 6 had their privacy rights violated and 6 guests have so far been arrested and detained by ICE. Motel 6 has 26 motels across Washington State and AG Ferguson fears that more guests’ information has already been given to ICE. In addition, the lawsuit explained that ICE merely looks for Latino-sounding names and runs them through their database and from there proceed to arrest and detain such individuals.
