Bay Area Local Police Departments Will Not Participate in ICE Immigration Raids

Local Police Departments in the Bay Area that includes San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, San Jose, and Richmond and Santa Clara, and Alameda counties’ sheriff’s offices in a press conference stated that they have not been notified by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of upcoming immigration raids and that they do not have any intention of cooperating in such raids. Moreover, the Oakland City Council passed a resolution disallowing the local police in participating in any way in ICE-led immigration raids. The Bay Area, especially San Francisco, has been a sanctuary for undocumented immigrants who encounter immigration problems. The numerous sanctuary cities scattered across the U.S. have earned the ire of the Trump Administration and have been threatened by the Federal Government of public funds cuts if they continue to refuse to cooperate in implementing the administration’s immigration policies.
