Arrests of Undocumented Immigrants With No Criminal Records Rise

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reported on Friday that arrests of undocumented immigrants rose by approximately triple from 4,918 during the final three months of the Obama Administration to 13,548 during October to December of 2017. Including the arrests of undocumented immigrants with criminal records, 39,174 deportation arrests were made from October to December of 2017 – a 43% increase from 27,402 deportation arrests during the final 3 months of the Obama Administration. The rising number of arrests and deportations of undocumented immigrants show the effect of the Trump Administration’s aggressive immigration enforcement and crackdown on undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. This is stark contrast from the Obama Administration’s policy of limiting deportations to individuals who pose a public safety threat, convicted criminals, and those who have recently crossed the border.
