California Immigration Lawyer Faces Four Decades in Prison for Scamming Immigrants

Victoria Chan, a Los Angeles-based lawyer, faces up to forty-five years of jail time after pleading guilty for visa fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering for duping wealthy Chinese investors more than $50 million dollars in exchange for green cards. Chan through her company, California Investment Immigration Fund, LLC, enticed wealthy Chinese investors with the promise of green cards or legal permanent residency by investing in the EB-5 visa program of the US Citizenship and Immigration Service. The EB-5 visa program grants green cards to investors who invest at least $500,000 in a domestic business that creates at least 10 new American jobs.
130 EB-5 applications were supposedly filed by Chan but government officials confirmed that no such businesses were established nor new American workers employed. Chan already spent half of the $50 million and bought properties that will be forfeited and held by the government. Chan’s case clearly shows that potential EB-5 visa investors must check and deal only with accredited and trust-worthy immigration lawyers.
