Dr. Lukasz R. Niec, a Michigan doctor of Polish Origin, who was reported as detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) two weeks ago will be released on a $10,000 bond after an immigration judge granted the same. Dr. Niec arrived in the U.S. legally from Poland with his family when he was 5 years of age in 1979 and has been living and working in the U.S. since. He acquired a green and eventually became a lawful permanent resident. When Dr. Niec was 17 years old, he was convicted for malicious destruction of property and receiving stolen property but was able to work out a plea agreement with State authorities and was only made to complete a youth training program. The convictions became the basis for his detention by ICE since ICE does not honor plea agreements between convicted individuals and State authorities.
