Mary Carmen R. Madrid Crost is the founder of The Madrid Crost Law Group, a solo practice that has evolved from her kitchen table to a boutique firm composed of multicultural lawyers and support staff. Under the leadership of Ms. Madrid Crost, the firm reached its twentieth anniversary on June 11, 2016. Inspired by her personal immigration experience with a working visa, Ms. Madrid Crost vowed to help fellow immigrants by concentrating her practice in immigration law.

As an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), Ms. Madrid Crost served as the 2012-2013 National Chair of the AILA Consumer Protection and Unauthorized Practice of Law (UPL) Action Committee. During her tenure, she led UPL liaisons from the 38 AILA chapters around the country.  Together they actively raised consumer awareness about the perils of unauthorized practice of law in an effort to protect immigrants from becoming victims of immigration fraud.

Ms. Madrid Crost is actively involved in the continuing education efforts of AILA’s international chapters. In May 2016, Ms. Madrid Crost was a speaker at the Rome District Chapter’s conference in Vienna, Austria. As Conference Committee Chair for the Bangkok District Chapter in 2014-2015, she organized Immigration Thrilla in Manila (March 2015), which was attended by immigration bars in various countries, as well as by high level official from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS), Department of State Visa Office, and the US Embassy in Manila. Part of the conference was a tour of the U.S. Embassy in Manila, where practitioners had an opportunity to experience a simulated visa interview before visa officers.

Over the years, Ms. Madrid Crost has been active in various capacities.  She has been active in the AILA Chicago Chapter and served as chair of its Media, Worksite Enforcement, and Social Committees.  She also joined colleagues to advocate for immigration reform during the National Day of Action at the U.S. Congress. Presently, she chairs AILA Chicago’s Law Practice Management Committee.

She is a founding member and past president of the former Filipino American Bar Association (FABA), a precursor of the Filipino American Lawyers Association (FALA) Chicago, and a member of the official U.S. Delegation to the Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) SME Summit.  She has been a presenter for the New York-based Immigration Advocates Network as well as faculty for the Salzburg-based Center for International Legal Studies (CILS) conference in Valle Nevado, Chile.

Ms. Madrid Crost is admitted to the New York bar. She earned her Master of Laws degree from The George Washington University National Law Center in Washington, D.C., and two degrees from the University of the Philippines (UP) including a post-baccalaureate degree in Law from the UP College of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics degree. After graduation from the University of the Philippines’ College of Law, Ms. Madrid Crost earned a scholarship to attend the Human Rights Program of the Institut International Des Droit De L’Homme in Strasbourg, France and interned at the Human Rights Department of the Council of Europe.

Ms. Madrid Crost embarked on her immigration law career twenty years ago. Nevertheless, she continues to draw passion and inspiration from her clients’ success.
